Uptime Monitoring
Cassian Sentinel™ monitors your store around the clock and alerts you the moment something goes wrong.
Cassian Sentinel™ continuously checks that your store is live, fast, and secure. Not just "is the page loading" — it verifies your SSL certificate is valid, your domain registration isn't about to lapse, your response time is healthy, and that visitors are getting a real store page rather than a Shopify error screen.
What Cassian Sentinel™ Monitors
| Metric | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Store availability | HTTP status check — is your store responding to requests? |
| Response time | How long your store takes to respond, in milliseconds |
| 24h uptime % | What percentage of the last 24 hours your store was fully available |
| SSL certificate | Days remaining until your certificate expires |
| Domain expiry | Days remaining until your domain registration expires (checked daily) |
| Last check time | When Cassian Sentinel™ last verified your store |
Check Frequency by Plan
| Plan | Check frequency |
|---|---|
| Inspector | Not included |
| Analyst | Not included |
| Protector | Every 5 minutes |
| Guardian | Every 5 minutes |
| Prime | Every minute |
| Enterprise | Every minute |
Uptime monitoring requires Protector plan or above. You can upgrade in Settings → Billing.
How to Enable Uptime Monitoring
Go to Sites in the sidebar and select your store.
Click Setup (or the settings icon next to your store name).
Toggle Uptime Monitoring to ON.
Cassian Sentinel™ begins checking your store within a few minutes. The first check result appears on your dashboard shortly after.
Where to See Uptime Data
Sidebar → Uptime shows the full uptime dashboard:
- Current status indicator (Up / Down / Degraded)
- 24-hour uptime percentage
- Average response time
- SSL certificate expiry date
- Domain expiry date
- A table of recent checks with timestamps and response times
The main dashboard also shows a compact Uptime card with current status at a glance. If your store is down, this card turns red immediately.
How Alerts Work
Cassian Sentinel™ is designed to avoid false alarms. Here's what happens when your store appears to go down:
- First check detects a non-200 response or timeout.
- Cassian Sentinel™ waits 30 seconds and checks again.
- If the second check also fails, you're notified immediately.
- When your store comes back up, you receive a recovery notification.
This two-step confirmation filters out brief network blips that would otherwise generate noisy, unhelpful alerts.
SSL Certificate Alerts
Cassian Sentinel™ alerts you before your SSL certificate expires — not after. You'll receive alerts at:
- 30 days before expiry
- 14 days before expiry
- 7 days before expiry
An expired SSL certificate causes browser security warnings that block visitors from reaching your store. These alerts are worth acting on immediately.
Domain Expiry Alerts
Similar to SSL, Cassian Sentinel™ watches your domain registration and alerts at:
- 60 days before expiry
- 30 days before expiry
- 14 days before expiry
Domain expiry is checked once daily via the RDAP protocol (the standard used by domain registrars).
Where to Configure Notifications
Go to Settings → Notifications to choose how you receive uptime alerts. Options include:
- Email (all plans)
- Telegram (Protector and above)
- Webhook — delivers to Slack, Discord, or any custom endpoint (Protector and above)
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as "down"? A non-200 HTTP response, a connection timeout, or a Shopify error page (such as a 503 or password-protected store page). Cassian Sentinel™ checks for a genuine, functioning store response — not just "something loaded."
Will I be alerted for very brief outages? No. Cassian Sentinel™ confirms a failure twice, 30 seconds apart, before alerting. Brief network hiccups that resolve on their own won't generate a notification.
My store uses a password page while I work on it — will that trigger an alert? Yes. A Shopify password-protection page returns a non-200 response. You can temporarily disable uptime monitoring in Sites → Setup while your store is in maintenance mode to avoid false alerts.
What if my SSL certificate auto-renews? Will I still get alerts? Cassian Sentinel™ checks the actual expiry date after renewal. If your certificate renews successfully, the alert schedule resets and no further warnings are sent.
I'm on Protector or Guardian and I see "Not available" on the uptime card — why? Uptime monitoring must be enabled for each site individually. Go to Sites → Setup → Uptime Monitoring and toggle it on.
I've been on Protector/Guardian for two weeks but the 24h uptime shows "No data." Why? Uptime data collects from the moment monitoring is enabled. If you enabled it recently, the 24-hour window may still be filling in. Check back in a few hours.
Can I see my store's uptime history further back than 24 hours? The dashboard currently shows the last 24 hours and a recent checks table. Longer-term history and uptime trend charts are on the roadmap.
Where do I go if I think monitoring is not working? Check Sidebar → Uptime — the "Last check" timestamp shows exactly when Cassian Sentinel™ last ran. If that timestamp is stale (more than 10 minutes for Protector/Guardian, more than 2 minutes for Prime), contact support.
